The action is on Dan. "Action Dan", that is, but perhaps better known as Dan Harrington. He was born in 1945 and has been a professional card player since 20 years of age. Dan Harrington's nick name, "Action Dan", is seems as a bit of a joke but serves him well. In 1971 (prior to his poker career), Dan won the 1971 Massachusetts State Chess Championship. Dan is also a well known name in circuits of backgammon. Today, Dan is focusing primarily on poker, but also takes some time off as a bankruptcy lawyer. Tight and strategic play has been Dan's way of surviving between the shuffles. He uses this to extract extra chips from the hands he does participate in, knowing that the players fear a good hand whenever he's in. Many players claim that he is a very predictable player, but his winning records tell a different story. Dan has repeatedly expressed that a third or fourth place is of satisfactory. Instead of aiming at first place every time and getting there only every now and then, a frequent appearance at the final tables seems more attractive. Dan is one of the more frequent participants at poker tournaments. He particularly fancies the World Series of Poker events and currently holds two bracelets with one Main Event bracelet from 1995 included. He has also finished seven times in the money at other WSOP events. Dan holds no World Poker Tour titles, but has made it to the final table once in 2005, where he lost to Minh Ly in the final heads-up. Despite his tight and often predictable play, Dan Harrington is one of the few who can make a living out of poker without playing any online internet poker. His winnings until 2004 exceed a staggering $2 million, making him one of the world's most successful poker players in the world. |
